About Us

Kaitiaki Kids Childcare (formally Play N Learn) is an Early Childcare Education (ECE) Facility based in Otahuhu, Auckland.

The foundation of Kaitiaki Kids Childcare is based on Christian values and principals, where we believe our children are a blessing and gift from God.

The word ‘Kaitiaki‘ is a Maori term and described as a person, group or being that acts as a carer, guardian, protector and conserver of the environment. At Kaitiaki Kids Childcare, we understand that we have a responsibility to foster a culture that promote an awareness of care and respect of the environment, and this lines up with our multicultural curriculum.

Our center is heading towards a green and sustainable approach, this means our new classroom will be powered by solar energy, our new outdoor space will be multi tiered where we will incorporate a garden that will provide vegetables for our parents and caregivers as well as be included in the meals we provide our children everyday.

Kaitiaki Kids Childcare Philosophy

At Kaitiaki Kids Childcare, each child is viewed as unique and valuable.

Every child is a capable and an active explorer who develops and learns best through play. Our role as Kaiako is to create positive and stimulating environments to build and extend on our children’s interest and knowledge.

We support our children’s learning and development through incorporating key aspects of the Early Childhood Curriculum Te Whariki.

Adopting a holisitic, child centered approach to planning empowers our children to become competent and confident learners, healthy in mind, body and spirit. We acknowledge the Treaty of Waitangi and its significance.

We acknowledge Maori as Tangata Whenua and interweave Tikanga Maori through our practices, but also recognising the link back to the Pacific. We value and respect all forms of communication with parents and families as we believe that working together in partnership with our parents and the community promotes a sense of belonging.

We believe in weaving Christian values and principles into our Curriculum as many of our families as well as Kaiako share the Christian Faith, while also respecting and acknowledging other religious beliefs.

We believe Kaitiaki Kids Childcare is an extension of their home, which we offer a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment.
